Someone I Used to Know

Bob Nolan
Original copyright: December 5, 1972

Somewhere down that silent distance that we call tomorrow,
I’ll wake upon a somewhere morning and I’ll want you so.
And maybe all these empty years have never passed at all
And time has just been standing still
And yesterday has never been
And you’re still there.

Refrain:
Reaching out your hand to brush away the mist of time
And walk into the warmth of now and I’ll be there
To touch you softly, then embrace
For all the long years when….
And life will then begin again
If you are there.

And so I watch the autumn shadows closing in around me
And hear their siren voices calling, “Won’t you come with me?”
And suddenly I’m rushing down the corridors of time,
Searching for a somewhere door
To open up and walk inside
And find you there.
