Shootin' My Way Through Town

Bob Nolan
Original copyright: September 24, 1985

Cartoon cowboy shooting guns.

I’m a two-gun man on a buckskin hoss,
I’m a-huntin’ fun and trouble.
I’m a rarin’, tearin’, darin’ guy
Shootin’ my way through town.
I’m a hard-boiled duck on a jamboree,
I’m a buckaroo a-plenty,
I’m willin’ villain, a killin’ guy
Shootin’ my way through town!
Singin’, “Yippee, yippee, yippee-yi!”
Singing’, “Yippee, yippee-yee!”
Singin’, “Yippee, yippee, yippee-yi!”
I’m as happy as I can be.
I’m a two-gun man, I’m a fightin’ fool,
So you better get to goin’.
I’m a hustlin’, bustlin’, rustlin’ guy,
Shootin’ my way through town!

Now there’s much been told in song and story
About the old Wild West ~
Tales of bad men in their glory
Most folks like the best.

I’m a two-gun man on a buckskin hoss,
I’m a high falutin’ feller.
I’m a ropin’, two-gun-totin’ guy
Shootin’ my way through town!
I’m a fancy Dan with a fryin’ pan
And the gals all love my cookin’.
I’m a “Roamin’ in the Gloamin’” guy,
Shootin’ my way through town!
Singin’, “Yippee, yippee,yippee-yi!”
Singin’, “Yippee, yippee-yee!”
Singin’, “Yippee, yippee, yippee-yi!”
I’m as happy as I can be.
I’m a two-gun Joe and I’ll have you know
With my guns I ain’t a-foolin’!
I’m a prowlin’, growlin’, howlin’ guy,
Shootin’ my way through town.

ABOUT THIS SONG

One of Bob Nolan's post-Sons of the Pioneers songs, "Shootin' My Way Through Town" was not registered for copyright until September 24, 1985, five years after his death, when Bob's daughter discovered his home demo acetate. Bob Nolan sang and whistled, accompanied only by his little Gibson guitar. He had an old home recording machine and he made his own wax demo 78s on it. Many years later, his grandson rented a record player and transferred the old demos to tape with indifferent success. The words above were transcribed from this tape. We were unable to find sheet music or even lead sheets and the song was never recorded.

"Shootin' My Way Through Town" is written in the same vein as "Biscuit Blues", "Cody of the Pony Express" or On the Rhythm Range. Our guess is that Bob created this song for the Sons of the Pioneers' funny man, Pat Brady, but it was never picked up for recording or the movies.
