Campfires of Heaven
Bob Nolan/Lloyd Perryman
Original copyright: Held by Columbia Pictures 1939
I’m dreaming of a day before my old pals went away.
I wonder where they are.
Within my fancy, I can see their campfires in the sky
In every silver star.
The world’s at rest, the stars are shining their best
Like glowing campfires of heaven.
When all is still, I picture Buffalo Bill
Beside his campfire in heaven,
Calling to his buddies, “Come over for a spell.”
Then I hear the songs and the stories that they tell
Of that distant day when each one wandered away
To build his campfire in heaven
Among the campfires of heaven.
ABOUT THIS SONG
The Sons of the Pioneers sang "Campfires of Heaven" in the Columbia picture Riders of Black River in 1939. Although the song was recorded for the Orthacoustic Symphonies of the Sage and was aired via the Teleways Radio Productions transcriptions, it was never commercially recorded. As part of his $33.00 a week salary, his song was "a work for hire" and Columbia Pictures retained the copyright. We have found no copies of sheet music or lead sheets.
